Historic District Modifications - Certificate of Appropriateness App

Building owners within the City of Fort Scott “H” Historic District must apply for a Certificate of Appropriateness when making any modifications within the District. Modifications may include alterations to existing structures, the addition of signage, the demolition of a structure, or new construction. Applications will go before the Design Review Board for a recommendation before final approval is made by the City Commission.

The Fort Scott Historic Preservation and Resource Commission Administrator and Codes Director along with the Design Review Board can, and will, provide assistance and advice within their authority and expertise. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated and will contribute significantly to maintaining a historic district in which the City of Fort Scott can be proud and continues to serve as a show place for visitors to Southeast Kansas.
