Finance


The Department of Finance is responsible for the administration of all financial and fiduciary operations of the City. It is the policy of the City of Fort Scott to record financial data on a budgetary basis of accounting by fund. Regular monthly treasurer’s reports are presented to the commission summarizing activity by fund. The Commission selects an independent certified public accounting firm and they perform annual audits.

Divisions

The department is made up of two divisions:

  • The Accounting Division is responsible for all financial affairs of the city including the preparation of annual budget, capital project administration, capital improvement planning, investments of funds, accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable.
  • The Utility Billing Division is responsible for accurate and timely billing of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility systems. Dog licenses and boating licenses are issued through this department.
