Notice of Fire Hydrant Flushing

The City of Fort Scott Public Works Department will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the entire City starting Friday, September 3rd, 2010.  This project will take approximately three weeks to complete.  The purpose of flushing the system is to establish a free chlorine residual throughout the entire Water Distribution System.  When a free chlorine residual is established, the City will resume chlorination as normal.  Residents may experience low water pressure, rusty colored water, or a strong smell of chlorine during this flushing process.  Should you have any questions, please call the Water Treatment Plant at (620) 223-5160.

Announcements

As a friendly reminder to our citizens, it is against City Ordinance 1282 to rake, blow, or move grass, grass clippings and leaves into any City street or alley. This eventually will lead to the blocking of the City’s storm drainage system.

The City does have a brush/dump site located north of the Animal Shelter on North Hill Street. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The brush/dump site accepts leaves, limbs, and yard clippings.  If the leaves are bagged, we ask that you empty the bags of leaves or clippings and take your bags with you.

Thank you for helping keep the City of Fort Scott a better place to live, work and play!
